Tony Shearer

Tony Shearer has been CEO/Chairman of Foodbuy LLC since 2001, and has overseen the company’s industry-leading growth from $2 billion to over $15 billion – nearly a billion dollars per year. He began his career in the UK, where he first qualified as an accountant in 1985, and remains a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Tony joined Compass Group in 1985 and was employed in a number of financial positions. In 1989, he became the first Compass recipient of the ACORN award, the Caterers and Hotelkeeper’s Recognition of Achievement for the “under 30’s” in the foodservice industry. Ultimately Tony served as Director of Finance and MIS, where he was responsible for the corporate financial centers and all systems activities. Under Tony’s leadership during these years (1991 – 1994), Compass pioneered the introduction of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), the first use of these technologies in the UK foodservice sector.

Tony transferred to Compass Group North America in 1994 and, as Chief Information Officer, was responsible for the creation and implementation of the company’s IT strategy, which centered around the implementation of SAP R/3 software for the corporate enterprise and the deployment of in-unit software to the company’s foodservice restaurants.

Tony is married with four children and resides in Charlotte, NC.
