Bringing People Together Through Hospitality

Andy Choi serves as Assistant General Manager with Wolfgang Puck Catering (WPC) supporting a major university business school in Chicago where he engages daily with students, faculty, and guests. Since joining WPC in 2006, he has built his career through a wide range of front-of-house and leadership roles.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Andy moved to the United States with his parents and two older sisters at the age of two. After spending his early childhood in California, his family relocated to Chicago when he was five. It was there, he says, that they truly found their community, something that has shaped both his personal and professional journey.

Andy’s path with WPC began in front-of-house roles, including server, bartender, and pantry attendant. His interest in leadership led him to management training, followed by progressive roles from catering coordinator to catering manager, and eventually operations manager. After a brief time away, he returned to the organization, drawn back by its culture and sense of community. Today, as assistant general manager, he brings that experience full circle.

On a daily basis, Andy thrives on the energy of the university environment.

“Whether it’s a busy afternoon or a large-scale event, I’m passionate about delivering high-quality food and service,” he says, reflecting his commitment to creating exceptional experiences.

For Andy, food has always been deeply connected to family and culture. Growing up, Korean food was at the heart of his household, and his favorite dish remains his mother’s dak dori tang (spicy braised chicken stew). He recalls big family gatherings where food served as the “glue” that brought everyone together, an experience that ultimately inspired his career in hospitality.

“I learned early on that a great meal is more than just food,” he explains. “It’s a way to create community and enjoy special moments together.”

Honoring cultural tradition while embracing who he is today is important to Andy.

“There was always a strong emphasis on family, respect for elders, and a dedicated work ethic,” he notes. “Those values carry through in my work, and in hospitality, they’re exactly what allow us to provide a great experience for our guests.”
