Compass Group USA Delivers 2.1 Million Meals to Communities in Need
At Compass Group USA, our associates, chefs, and partners are committed to nourishing the communities where we live and work. Through our many food recovery collaborations, we donated over 2.1 million meals to people in need during the 2024 fiscal year.
This incredible impact was made possible by working with our clients and a diverse network of food recovery organizations – from long-standing partners like Chefs to End Hunger and Feeding America to innovative new platforms like Careit and Food Rescue Hero to invaluable local organizations like The Nashville Food Project and Waste Less Solutions. By leveraging this array of local and national connections, we’re able to efficiently rescue surplus food and get it to those experiencing food insecurity.
Bringing Food to Where It’s Needed Most
One great example is the work our team does at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. By partnering with Food Rescue U.S., they ensure perfectly good food doesn’t end up in landfills, but instead nourishes people in the local community. You can learn more about this impactful program in the CBS News story featured below.
Chef Nick Cavaretta and his team package food for donation through our partner Food Rescue U.S.
Chef Ashley Ordonez from the B&I client prepares food to donate through our partner Share My Meals.
At a large business and industry client site, we partner with Share My Meals to donate leftover food using reusable containers. General Manager Matthew Watkins shared, “Share My Meals has given us a sustainable, technology-driven, local, and cost-effective platform to simplify food recovery. It’s incredibly rewarding for my team to use our resources to help address food insecurity in our community.”
Driving Industry-Wide Change
Beyond the direct impact of our meal donations, Compass Group also collaborates with industry organizations to advance food recovery efforts on a larger scale. We work with other signatories of the U.S. Food Waste Pact and Pacific Coast Food Waste Commitment through the Food Recovery Working Group, learning from experts and developing best practices.
This year, we also joined the innovative Meal Recovery Coalition, led by our partner Share My Meals. This alliance brings together diverse organizations to “make meal recovery the norm in New Jersey” by raising awareness, fostering collaboration, and building scalable solutions.
While our chefs and associates work hard every day to minimize food waste, we know there will always be some excess. That’s why we’re committed to continuing our partnerships to get that nutritious food to community members in need across the country.
