Meet Our People: Erika
Compass Group is only as strong as its people—so it’s a good thing that we have some seriously amazing people. Here’s your chance to get to know one of the people that makes us altogether great.
Say Hello to Erika
Erika Rembert has worked at Compass Group for more than four years and has been a national sales director for Canteen for the past two-and-a-half. The family-focused, candy-loving Compass superstar shares her favorite thing about Compass, the best piece of career advice she’s ever received and what superpower she’d like to have. (It’s a good one.)
What’s your favorite thing about working at Compass?
The autonomy in my role to be entrepreneurial but also the amazing support resources that are there when I need them!
What’s the first thing you do at work each morning?
Each morning before I start work, I take deep breaths and allow myself five minutes to get settled in. After I am settled in, I create and review my to-do list.
What is something at work that you’re especially good at?
I would say that I’m good at empathizing and building rapport with my clients. People buy from people they like!
What are you currently reading and watching?
I’m currently reading “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” by Maya Angelou. I thought that it would be a good read for my daughter and I to read and summarize together. I’m currently watching “The Walking Dead.” I’m not sure if I’m more intrigued by the storyline or the intricate goth makeup on the zombies.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to completely unplug and give my attention to my family. They sacrifice a great deal to make certain that I am successful in my role. When I have free time, I allow them to choose and to be in charge.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever been given?
I’m not sure if it’s career advice or simply life advice, but my brother once told me that it doesn’t matter what decision you make in life, you can make it the right decision. I take that piece of advice everywhere I go.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Compass?
People care about me as a person and about personal growth. Compass is truly a family environment where everybody is there for each other.
If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Hmmm, CANDY.
If you could travel somewhere right now, where would you go and why?
Africa! I remember as a little girl watching Will Smith in an interview and he said, “It feels like God visits everywhere else but lives in Africa.” I hope someday to have a piece of that feeling.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
Remembering everything that my husband says verbatim so that I can repeat his words back to him in my time of need.
If you were an animal, what would you be?
A lioness of course. What other animal could a female alpha be?
Why did you join Compass?
Josh Nelson, Senior Sales Director for Canteen, painted a picture of Compass that seemed too good to be true. He said all of the right things at a time that I needed to hear them and I made a decision to trust a salesperson!
Joining Compass turned out to be the greatest career decision I’ve ever made. I feel respected and valued for what I bring to Compass. I am confident that the work that we do each day makes a difference in the lives of millions all over the world. It doesn’t get any better than that!
