National Hispanic Heritage Month | Our Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future
Each year from September 15 through October 15, National Hispanic Heritage Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.
This year’s theme, Our Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future, reminds us that heritage lives not only in the traditions we preserve, but also in the lessons and values we carry forward.
Throughout the month, we’re sharing reflections from Compass Group associates about the people, traditions, and experiences that have shaped who they are.
A Place at Her Table
Janice De La Cruz | Resident Engagement and Hospitality Director and Interim Systems Director | CCL Hospitality Group
“During Hispanic Heritage Month, I’m proud to celebrate the Latino culture that helped shape who I am today.
I was blessed to learn the meaning of hospitality from my grandmother, a woman who welcomed everyone with warmth, generosity, delicious food, and a place at her table. She taught me that hospitality is more than serving others; it’s about making people feel seen, valued, welcomed, and at home.
Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my life and are at the heart of my work today as a hospitality leader in senior living. Every day, I have the privilege of creating experiences that bring connection, comfort, and joy to the residents we serve.
Although my grandmother has been gone for many years, I’m grateful for her, my family, and the rich Latino heritage that continues to influence how I lead, serve, and care for others.”
