The military was really my first job. I made the decision to join the United States Air Force while attending college. I ultimately completed a B.A. in Economics with a Minor in Law & Society and an A.A.S in Paralegal Studies after attending college wherever and whenever my assignments allowed while on active duty. I joined the Air Force Reserve when I started my first civilian job and progressing in rank from a Paralegal to the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chief Prosecutor, Office of Military Commissions at the Pentagon. Service to my Country was an unparalleled experience.

After leaving the Pentagon, I opened a small business but the pace was too slow. I connected with Hiring Our Heroes to assist in my job search and received a call from a Compass Group recruiter who shared the company profile with me. After learning more about Compass Group and all it has to offer employees, I jumped at the chance for an interview. I am always interested in people and problem-solving and have a real desire to make a difference in the success of a large company. Compass Group was the right fit. I accepted a position on the Payroll Process Improvement Team as a Payroll Functional Analyst.

A significant benefit of my military experience has been my exposure to diverse people with varying skill levels and degrees of thought. I’ve visited 8 countries and lived in over a dozen states. My experiences domestically and abroad prepared me well for my role here at Compass. Our jobs are not routine and we get involved with many initiatives and projects with many different departments.

I immediately got involved in the Veterans Associate Resource Group (VARG) because I enjoy meeting and working with different people from different disciplines to achieve a common goal. As a recently retired Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force Reserve, I wanted to use both my military and civilian experience to help support VARG in accomplishing its mission; to provide support to veteran colleagues while helping Compass succeed through the use of our unique skill sets and insight. My department has been supportive of my active participation in the VARG. In fact, one of the most beneficial aspects of the company is the level of support provided so you can be effective in helping to shape the success of the company. Compass Group is the leader in the industry and there are many moving parts that make this company great. I look forward to increasing my contribution to this company’s success in every way that I can.
