ESS Celebrates Success by Empowering Indigenous Learners

May 12, 2025

As part of its ongoing commitment to Indigenous inclusion, ESS works in partnership with Alaskan Native corporations and communities through joint ventures that deliver industry-leading services while also promoting progressive Indigenous engagement and leadership.

The Hospitality On The Move (HOME) program launched a transformative 10-day capacity-building experience at Robin’s Nest near Terrace, BC this past June on the traditional lands of the Tsimshian, Kitsumkalum and Kitselas First Nations. Designed to blend career readiness with hands-on training in culinary, housekeeping and janitorial services, the HOME program proved to be a resounding success.

Inspired by powerful stories of Indigenous achievement within ESS and Compass Group, the HOME program welcomed eight motivated Indigenous participants from across northern BC, including individuals from the Tahltan, Kaska, Kitselas, and Kitsumkalum communities. All within a supportive and empowering environment the program fostered skills development, teamwork and confidence-building.

Graduation day was filled with celebration and pride, marking the completion of the program and the beginning of promising career journeys. From building strong résumés to forming lasting bonds, the participants embraced every opportunity by sharing stories, laughter and encouragement.

With a global presence and deep local roots, ESS continues to build strong relationships in every community it serves.  The additional support of Cole Needham from Clean Harbors and Calvin Carlick from TNDC further strengthened the initiative, reinforcing the collaborative spirit behind the program.

ESS proudly congratulates the inaugural class of HOME graduates and eagerly anticipates their continued growth—both within their communities and potentially as future team members at ESS and Compass.
